One of the most common things couples say to me when they book me as their wedding photographer, is that they usually feel awkward in front of the camera or dislike having their photo taken. This is entirely natural, especially if you might not have had professional photos taken before.
Rest assured that I’m completely used to this and I'll be there to help you both feel at ease and capture natural, beautiful images! I have plenty of tips to help you relax during your portrait photos, here are some of my top tips to help you feel more comfortable in front of the lens on your wedding day!
BE YOURSELVES & FOCUS ON EACHOTHER
This is my number one top tip for completely natural images. I’ll do my best to help you forget I’m even there and by focusing on each other you will find that this happens really naturally and results in relaxed photos. Simply interact with each other, have a giggle, chat about your favourite moments from the day and just be yourselves.
MOVEMENT
Movement will naturally achieve a relaxed look in images and will also help you both feel less like you're posing for a photo. There are lots of simple ways to add movement to your images, such as walking together or practicing your first dance.
HAVE FUN
Laughter effortlessly creates natural images, so be prepared to make each other laugh! Tell your favourite joke or reminisce about some of your funniest memories together – I’ll be snapping away during these moments to capture your natural connection.
ENJOY THE MOMENT
Many couples find that their portrait photos are one of the rare moments during their special day when they simply get to spend some time together - with me tagging along to capture some beautiful images! So relax and enjoy the moment, soak up the wedding day excitement and cherish some quiet time together and take it all in. That newlywed happiness will naturally shine in your photos!
PRACTICE - BOOK AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT
If you would like to practice having photos together before your special day, I highly recommend booking an engagement shoot. It’s the perfect way to get used to being in front of the camera, get to know how I work and try out different poses. It’s also a lovely opportunity for us to catch up on your wedding plans and get to know each other before your wedding day, which will naturally help you both feel more at ease. And of course, you will receive a collection of beautiful images to treasure and celebrate your engagement!
